What personal data we collect and why we collect it

We collect personal identification information from Users in a variety of ways, including, but not limited to, when Users visit our site, subscribe to the newsletter, or enter a giveaway. Users may be asked for, as appropriate, name, email address, mailing address, and any other details that might be requested in order to serve you. Users may, however, visit our site anonymously. We will collect personal identification from Users if they voluntarily submit such information to us. Users can always refuse to supply personal identification information, except that it may prevent them from engaging in certain site related activities.

Handling this data allows us to:

  • Keep the Users informed via an emailed newsletter
  • Send the User their giveaway prize. We will contact you by email if you win a giveaway. Each giveaway will state who will be supplying the prize. If it is an author or publisher and the book is physically shipped, we will share your mailing address. If we ship the package we will maintain your mailing address information for three months or until you notify us that the prize has been received, whichever comes first.

We do not sell, trade or rent Users personal identification information with others.


When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. We use the following plug-ins on our website:

  • Askimet– a spam catcher that looks for harmful or spam comments.
  • Comment Reply Notification – When you leave a comment on this site, your name, email, and IP address will be collected and stored on this site managed with WordPress (.org) indefinitely.  Your name/username will be shown publicly, but the email and IP address are not. If at any point you wish to have a comment removed, you can contact us. This plugin also allows us to reply to your comments. I blog to share books and to talk about books. If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.


If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

We may collect aggregated non-personal identification information about Users whenever they interact with our Site.   • Book Host Hosting service may collect non-personal data to determine the number of visitors per month. Some of your data may be stored at their server.
  • Mailchimp email marketing service stores personal data (name and email addresses) for our newsletters and distributes the newsletters to our followers. Non-personal data, such as the number of users that opened our newsletters and if a website link was clicked, is collected to track the performance of our website. This information is used to improve the content we offer our users, monitor our audience growth and our newsletter engagement.


How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us.
