Stephanie Garber’s limitless imagination takes flight once more in the colorful, mesmerizing, and immersive sequel to the bestselling breakout debut Caraval

A heart to protect. A debt to repay. A game to win.

After being swept up in the magical world of Caraval, Donatella Dragna has finally escaped her father and saved her sister Scarlett from a disastrous arranged marriage. The girls should be celebrating, but Tella isn’t yet free. She made a desperate bargain with a mysterious criminal, and what Tella owes him no one has ever been able to deliver: Caraval Master Legend’s true name.

The only chance of uncovering Legend’s identity is to win Caraval, so Tella throws herself into the legendary competition once more—and into the path of the murderous heir to the throne, a doomed love story, and a web of secrets…including her sister's. Caraval has always demanded bravery, cunning, and sacrifice. But now the game is asking for more. If Tella can’t fulfill her bargain and deliver Legend’s name, she’ll lose everything she cares about—maybe even her life. But if she wins, Legend and Caraval will be destroyed forever.

Welcome, welcome to Caraval...the games have only just begun.

Legendary is a magical adventure with romance and mystery. I loved this book!

Legendary picks up from the first book Caraval, which you must read to understand this series. Because of this my review will be spoiler free.  In Legendary it is Tella’s turn to play the game and the stakes are higher (and deadlier). In the first book it took me a while to like Tella because she acted like a spoiled brat. But in Legendary we see the real Tella is brave, intelligent and loyal to her sister. The game requires making tough choices and sacrifices, and Tella proves she will do anything for the people she loves.

I was amazed with how creative and unique this series continues to be. The author created a world that is both dark and beautiful, and I was mesmerized with the details of each scene. There are new characters, new enemies and details of the mysterious Legend that has me wanting more. Caraval is a game but with the twists in the story Tella has a hard time knowing what is real or fake, and I was suspicious too. But this is what made this fun to read.  I was glued to the story and couldn’t wait to see what happened next, but part of me also didn’t want this story to end.

Rebecca Soler is the narrator for the audiobook and I loved her performance. She is one of my favorite narrators because she creates unique voices and brings life and excitement to the story. As soon as I saw she was the narrator for Legendary I knew I had to listen to this audiobook.

Legendary has romance, suspense and adventure.  I highly recommend this to fans of fantasy. I love this series and I can’t wait for the next book.

About Stephanie Garber

I’m the international and New York Times bestselling author of Caraval.

When I’m not writing, I teach creative writing at a private college in Northern California, where I’ve been known to turn assignments into games and take students on field trips that involve book signings.

To help pay my bills during college, grad school, and the breaks in between, I worked as a barista, a waitress, a bartender, a customer service representative for an energy consulting company, and as a sales girl at Bath and Bodyworks. I also spent years working with youth; I worked as a counselor at space themed summer camp, volunteered at a school for deaf children in Mexico, and I took multiple groups of college students overseas to spend their winter vacations serving at youth hostels in Amsterdam. But out of everything that I’ve done, writing young adult novels has been my favorite job.

My debut YA fantasy novel, Caraval is out now (Flatiron Books/Macmillan—US and Hodder & Stoughton—UK). Caraval has sold in over twenty-five foreign territories and the movie rights were picked by Twentieth Century Fox.
