Nook Book Wrap-Up #1

Posted January 28, 2018 by Kathy in Wrap-Up / 18 Comments

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a good week.

It’s been a while since I’ve had a Sunday post.  Last month was hectic with work, family and the holidays. Now that it is a new year I’ve decided to try to find a balance with family, work, blogging and me time. So my one word goal for this year is Simplify (check out my Top 10 Tuesday post about this year’s goals). My weekends seem to fly by so fast, so I’m switching to a monthly wrap up post. I will be linking this to The Sunday Post hosted by Kim at Caffeinated Book Reviewer. Even though I’m doing this post monthly I will still visit everyone’s weekly posts. So welcome to my first wrap up post for 2018! A huge thank you to Michelle at Limabean Designs (and Because Reading) for making my new meme image – I love it!

Book news:

On Monday, January 22 I went to author Marie Lu’s book signing.  The signing was at a Barnes & Noble in Folsom, which is 25 miles from where I live. We rarely have book signings in my area, so I was so excited that she came.  She was promoting her new book Batman: Nightwalker which I loved. Check out my review and mini write up about her book signing.  I got a stack of books signed but then when I got home I realized I didn’t have her sign 2 books (Legend and Champion). I had her sign my copies of the graphic novels but not the paperbacks. Now I hope she comes back again so I can get them signed lol.

Currently reading or listening to:

  • The Defiant by Lesley Livingston (audiobook)
  • Baby, I’m Howling for You by Christine Warren (eARC)

Reviews coming soon:

  • Firefighter Dragon by Zoe Chant (audiobook)
  • Daughter of the Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller (eARC)

Books I read but will not review:

  • Eighth Grave After Dark by Darynda Jones (audiobook) – 4.5 Stars
  • The Dirt on Ninth Grave by Darynda Jones (audiobook) – 5 Stars

Reading challenges update:

  • COYER Winter Switch Challenge – 4 books (I did not set a specific number of books I would read)
  • 2018 New Release Challenge – 1 of 20 books
  • 2018 Audiobook Challenge – 4 of 30 audiobooks

Books added to my shelf:

I’m surprised I’ve received all the ARCs that I requested (this rarely happens for me lol).

  • Furyborn by Claire Legrand (pub date 5/22/18)
  • To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo (pub date 3/6/18)
  • The Optimist’s Guide to Letting Go by Amy E. Reichert (pub date 5/15/18)
  • Undone by You by Kate Meader (pub date 3/5/18)

So far the changes I’ve made have really helped. I am enjoying reading again and at my own pace. Thanks Grace and I hope you have a great week!

I hope you get the new graphics for your blog. It is fun to change things up now and then. I loved Kate Meader’s series too. I haven’t read many sports romances so this was a nice surprise. Thanks Sam and I hope you have a great week!

I hope I get to see her again too. This was my third time meeting her (twice in my area and once at San Diego Comic Con), so hopefully that is a sign we’ll be crossing paths again soon lol. Thanks Kristin!

  1. That Michelle does good work! 😉 I am glad you love it!
A Monthly wrap up is a great idea. I try to do every week but I know in the summer I will probably do them less because I’m never home to do them.

Have a great week, Kathy! Happy Reading! ox
ps the Weekends go crazy fast and they need to slow down or I need another day between Saturday and Sunday. 🙂

So far I like this format. Normally I don’t have that much to say but seeing a month’s worth of news looks nice lol. I wish we can have 3 day weekends all the time lol. Thanks Michelle!

  2. Ooh, I love book signings…and it has been ages since I went to one. I think the last one was just north of where you are, in Grass Valley.

I remember Folsom, from when I lived in the Sacramento area. It has probably grown.

Enjoy your week and finding your balance. Here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES

    • Kathy

Folsom has grown and the book signing was at a new outdoor shopping center called the Palladio. It was my first time there and I have to go back when it’s warmer weather. They have outdoor concerts that sound really fun. Thanks Laurel-Rain!

  3. Ooh you got to see Marie Lu! Nice. I read my first book by her, Warcross, recently and really liked it.

Defiant looks really good, and I want to read it (after I get to The Valiant) so I hope it turns out to be good. 🙂

    • Kathy

She mentioned she’s working on the second Warcross book. It’s in the early stages but I can’t wait to read it. The Valiant was good and I hope you enjoy it. Thanks Greg!

  4. You are so lucky that you were able to go to Marie Lu’s signing! I wasn’t able to go because even if it was pretty close, traffic in Los Angeles is crazy so I wasn’t able to make it!

I still have to read Warcross, though!

    Also, hello fellow Pinay! ☺️

    • Kathy

Your traffic is crazy! When we go to Southern CA I make my husband drive because LA traffic is too stressful for me lol. It’s nice to meet a fellow Pinay!!

  5. I think that everyone is just now starting to settle down from all the holiday craziness. The author event with Marie Lu sounds like so much fun! We rarely get them here either but I do need to pay more attention because you never know. Yay for getting your ARCs. Always fun! Have a great week!

This last Christmas was more hectic than usual so I’m glad to finally go back to normal. All the good signings are in the bay area which I would try to go if they were on a weekend. It’s too hard to attend during the week. Thanks Katherine and I hope you have a great week too!

Congratulations on your new job! I hope you find a balance with everything you do. I like listening to books too that I don’t need to review. I love Charlie and just want to jump to the next book without having to take the time to write a review lol. Thanks Melanie!
