Happy New Year & 2018 Reading Challenges

Happy New Year everyone!  I wish you all a safe and happy 2018! Since this is the first day of 2018 it’s time to make new year resolutions and goals. This year I’m going to keep my goals (life and reading) simple:

  • Exercise regularly and eat healthier
  • Read from my TBR list and books I own.

For 2017 my job interfered with my reading and blogging time, so for 2018 I’m reducing the amount of reading challenges I’ll participate in. I selected the following challenges that should be easy for me to achieve:

The 2018 Audiobook Challenge is hosted by Hot Listens and Caffeinated Reviewer. This is a year-long challenge to listen to audiobooks.  You can find all the details here.

I love audiobooks! I have a long list of audiobooks I purchased on Audible.com, on the waiting list at my library, and have received for review from Tantor Audio. I get stuck in traffic during my commute so I always have an audiobook on my phone. I’m ready for this challenge!

My goal is “Binge Listener” (Why read when someone can do it for you) – 20 to 30 audiobooks

The 2018 New Release Challenge is hosted by Lexie at Unconventional Book Views and Stormi at Books, Movies, Reviews! Oh My! . This is a year-long challenge to read books released in 2018.  You can find all the details here.

My goal is “New Release Newbie” – 1 to 30 books

I did good in this challenge for 2017 and read 47 books (reaching “New Release Pro” status). Since I plan to read books from my TBR I will lower my goal to “New Release Newbie”.

I’m currently participating in the COYER Winter Switch challenge which runs from 12/16/17 to 3/9/18.  This Clean Out Your E-Reader challenge is seasonal, so I probably will join the Summer version later this year.

I will be tracking my progress on my 2018 Reading Challenges page and with the UBB Reading Challenge Plugin. I love this plugin by Ashley at Nose Graze. Since I have no coding knowledge, this plugin does everything I need to track my challenges. This year I will be using it to track the number of books I read from my TBR list, number of new to me authors I read from, and the genres I read.

What are your 2018 reading goals or challenges?

  1. I absolutely love your goals, as they are a few of mine as well. I am obsessed with reading challenges, and always sign up for a ton, but I love them. Good luck with your challenges, and happy new year!

Thanks Sam! This year I’m trying to be more carefree with my reading,so these challenges are easy to meet. Fingers crossed I get to most of my TBR lol. Good luck with your challenges and I hope you have a great new year!

I’m trying to be stress free this year when it comes to reading lol. I even lowered my Goodreads goal from last years 80 books to this year 50 books. Good luck on your challenge and I hope you have a great new year!

  2. Yes, it’s best to keep things simple and fun, rather than loading yourself up with too many reading challenges I’ve found. I’ll just be participating in the challenge I’ve run for 9 years now, Aussie Author Challenge 2018, and the complementary Australian Women Writers Challenge. But I also like the sound of that New Release Challenge — off to investigate further. Happy new year of reading Kathy!

So far the simple approach is working out for me. With the lowest level of the New Release Challenge, which is 1 to 30 books, I don’t feel the pressure of focusing on new releases. With just 1 book I can achieve my goal lol. Good luck with your challenges Jo and I hope you have a Happy New Year too!!
