Weekly Wrap-Up #138

Posted November 12, 2017 by Kathy in Wrap-Up / 18 Comments

My Weekly Wrap Up is my version of The Sunday Post hosted by Kim at Caffeinated Book Reviewer. This weekly meme is a chance to share news about your blog, books and life. It is also a perfect opportunity to meet bloggers and add more books to your collection.

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a good week.

It’s been a quite week here. Fall has officially arrived and our weather is staying steady in the 60 degrees range. We’ve had little rain but we mainly have clear skies.  It’s hard to believe Thanksgiving will be here soon. I’m already looking for new recipes to try.  Are you getting ready for the holidays?

I’m excited to say that I’m caught up on my reviews. Last month Ashley @ Nosegraze posted how it’s getting harder to write book reviews.  I feel the same way. Because of work I don’t have a lot of time to read and blog. Writing book reviews have felt like a chore. I think the pressure of reviewing ARCs is getting to me. In October I re-read some of my favorite books and ignored my ARC pile. It felt refreshing. I am already strategizing for next year to cut back on requesting ARCs and reduce the number of challenges I participate in. Hopefully this will reduce the pressure and add some fun back to reading/blogging.  Does anyone else feel this way?

How was your week?

Currently reading or listening to:

  • Renegades by Marissa Meyer (audiobook)

Currently watching:

Last week’s episode of Outlander was really good!  I like how they’ve adapted the books and made some slight changes to surprise fans.

I am still watching Stranger Things season 2. I’m on episode 5 so I hope to finish this season this weekend.  I like this season so far but Eleven and Dustin are irritating me lol. Have you seen this Stranger Things Mash-Up?  I used to watch Perfect Strangers so this clip made me laugh.

What are you watching?

I hope you have a great week!

I like doing the review as a series. I’ve done this recently and it makes the review easier to write since you can sum up your thoughts for the entire series. Thanks Melanie for stopping by and I hope you have a great week!

I’ve been doing more reviews in a list form and I like the format. They are faster to write and straight to the point. Thanks Evelina for stopping by and I hope you have a great week!

  1. Oh, yes, I request the ARCs of books I know I’ll want to read…and then dread the deadline for the review hanging over my head. I thought I had lots of time to read the two coming out on 11/21, so I was happily reading books on my TBR…and then I realized: that’s next week!

Enjoy your week, and here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES

I’ve missed release days by mistake and posted reviews way after the date. I think this is a common thing but that’s why I’m cutting back on ARCs. I’ve been purchasing a lot of books or finding them at my library, so I’ll get to the new releases one way or another lol. Thanks Laurel-Rain for stopping by and I hope you have a great week!

Thank you! I kept putting off writing these reviews, especially a 2 star review. But I did it and now I don’t to have to worry about it lol. That is great you are caught up for 2017!! Thanks Sherry for stopping by and I hope you have a great week.

  2. That was quite a reveal in last week’s Outlander. That definitely complicates things. I always wrote reviews for books I read, so it’s not any more or any less stressful. I post 4 reviews a week – 1 full on narrative type review and 3 mini-reviews. I don’t always include shelf/library books in those reviews, so sometimes they are just a few sentences. I usually do that with BIG, HYPED books because they have already been reviewed so much.

Outlander is finally picking up the pace so I’m sad to get closer to the end of this season. I keep notes while I read so I need to put the review together. I try to write it before starting the next book but sometimes I can’t wait for that lol. Thanks Sam for stopping by and I hope you have a great week!

  3. Fall is definitely here! The leaves have turned here and they’re all over the ground, so yeah . And book reviews can be a chore, no question. I don’t do a lot of ARC’s and while sometimes I miss the new shiny things, it does help me because I don’t feel beholden, you know? Usually I read something I’ve picked out and that helps with my motivation a bit. 🙂

I liked Stranger Things 2, but I agree about Eleven and Dustin. The characters make odd choices sometimes lol. Hopper was bugging me a bit too…

I was dreading writing up a 2 star review, so I think that came into play for my laziness lol. But now that I’ve written it feels good to be current. I finished Stranger Things 2 last night and it was really good! Hopper bugged me too but I really liked how the season ended. Now we have to wait for the next season! Thanks Greg for stopping by and I hope you have a great week!

  4. Oh man I so agree. I hate writing book reviews. I mean I like it but just don’t have the time so it becomes a chore. And yes the ARCs! I have a new rule for only 2 a month going forward and I hope to get down my backlog next year. I also think I am going to not do any challenges next year. Hope you have a great week!

I wish I had more time to write up reviews. Sometimes I don’t have that much to say about a book, so that’s when I get stuck lol. I’m glad to be caught up on my reviews and will try to be better on doing them. I get the emails from Netgalley and Edelweiss and skim over them quickly. So far nothing has caught my eye for next year (so far lol). Thanks Grace for stopping by and I hope you have a great week!

I finished Stranger Things 2 last night and thought the ending was good. I wonder what will happen in the next season. I write notes while I read so I just need to take the time to put it all together. I have to stop being lazy about this lol. Thanks Laura for stopping by and I hope you have a great week!
