Weekly Wrap-Up #133

My Weekly Wrap Up is my version of The Sunday Post hosted by Kim at Caffeinated Book Reviewer. This weekly meme is a chance to share news about your blog, books and life. It is also a perfect opportunity to meet bloggers and add more books to your collection.

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a good week.  Nothing exciting happened here but the week dragged on.  It felt like it took forever for the weekend to finally come. On Saturday we had a baby shower for my sister-in-law.  The shower was a Harry Potter theme and it was a fun party.  We played games like Potions Class (baby bottles filled with a drink and a race to drink the bottle), Transfiguration Class (making babies out of play doh) and Defense Against the Dark Farts (diapering stuffed animals while blindfolded).  I ordered these Harry Potter cookies from a local baker and they were so cute.  Too cute to eat but we did eat them and they were delicious.

I started reading The Infinite by Lori M. Lee this week.  This is an ARC I started a couple months ago but stopped to read books for a blog tour.  I’m at 59% and I’m really bored with this book. But part of me is a little interested to see what happens.  I’m torn between DNFing the book or continue reading.  When do you decide to give up on a book?

Currently reading or listening to:

  • The Empty Grave by Jonathan Stroud (ARC for Blog Tour)

Here is what happened since my last Weekly Wrap Up:

Reviews coming soon:

  • A Court of Thorns and Roses, A Court of Mist and Fury, & A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas (Audiobooks)

Outlander premiered last week and I thought it was good. This season will partly focus on the time Jamie and Claire spend apart, separated by centuries.  I’ve been dreading seeing this on the show because I hated seeing them apart.  In my mind it should only be Jamie and Claire, and not them in relationships with other people.  I know it’s crazy but I only want them together lol.  So I’m not looking forward to these scenes and I want to hit the fast forward button to when they reunite lol.  What are you watching?

I hope you have a great week!

  1. Last week Outlander kept me in some serious tears. I may not make it through another episode like that. Those cookies from the baby shower are some of the cutest things ever.

The first episode was good. I have a feeling this season is going to be an emotional one for fans lol. The cookies turned out really cute and my sister-in-law loved them. Thanks Sam for stopping by and I hope you have a great week!

  2. Cute shower!

As for DNF….it depends on how bored and frustrated I am. If I can’t stand another minute, I give the book 50 pages only. But for some I might give 100. Occasionally at that point, the book might take a turn for the better.

Meanwhile I really HATE boring books and having to decide if I should DNF; my way of trying to avoid this dilemma is to steer clear of authors I have never read…unless others give the books high praise.

I’ve been burned too many times!

Enjoy your week…and here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES

    • Kathy

The first book of the series was just ok. I think I’ll avoid requesting ARCs for authors I haven’t read before. Thanks Laurel-Rain for stopping by and I hope you have a great week!

    • Kathy

They were really adorable. I wish I could be as talented as this baker is. Thanks Corina for stopping by and I hope you have a great week!

  3. It’s hard to decide whether to DNF a book. Sometimes I will put it aside and start another book, and go back to it. Sometimes that helps.
What a great idea for a baby shower! It sounds like a lot of fun.

    Enjoy your week ahead.

I’m putting the book aside (again) so I’ll see if I pick it up again. Thanks for the tip and I hope you have a great week!

  4. Those cookies are so cool, I would have a hard time eating them. Seems like a lot of work went into those cookies just to eat…lol. 🙂 Sounds like a fun shower.

Oh I hate boring books even if I am curious, what I do is put it down and if after a few weeks I am not that interested in going back then I know it’s a DNF. 🙂

    Have a great week!

I don’t have the patience, talent and steady hand to decorate cookies like that lol. But they did taste good and were really cute. Thanks for the tip on DNF! I’m going to stop reading this book (again) and see if I pick it up again lol. Have a great week Stormi!

  5. Sounds like a fun party- I like the sound of Potions Class! And I agree it was a bit of a draggy week.

I haven’t seen Outlander but it sounds like a great show!

    • Kathy

I think you would have loved the Potions Class! We filled the bottles with beer and a lot of the men had a problem finishing it because the suds clogged the bottle’s nipple lol. It was fun watching them lol. Thanks Greg for stopping by and I hope you have a great week!

  6. That DNF decision is tough – especially when it’s an ARC. If I’m not hating it I typically make myself read 1 chapter a day and then I can go read something else. If I can’t make myself do that I figure it’s time to DNF. Those cookies are adorable! I’d have had a hard time eating them! Have a great week!

    • Kathy

That’s a good tip! I was trying to finish the ARC all at once so I’ll try one chapter a day. Part of me wants to know what happens so I think I’ll try this. The cookies were yummy lol. Thanks Katherine for stopping by and I hope you have a great week!

  7. A HP themed baby shower! I love it! And the cookies look awesome 🙂

Sorry about the current read – I’m kinda in a similar situation. I prefer to really not like a book than to have this in between feeling. I probably should DNF but I do want to know what happens, so I’ll probably finish it and it’ll probably by a 2 star read :/ Good luck deciding what to do.

OH and I just caught up on the last season of Outlander over the weekend! So excited to start the next season 🙂 Have a great week!

    • Kathy

Outlander is starting off slow but it is good. I can’t wait for Jamie and Claire to reunite already lol. Thanks Berls and I hope you have a great week!

    • Kathy

I want a baby shower too! Potterybarn Teen just released a new HP line so now I want to redo my bedroom, but I doubt my husband would let me lol. Thanks Grace and I hope you have a great week!

    • Kathy

This is the second time I placed an order with this baker. I want have another party just so I can order more cookies lol. I’m going to skim-read the book so I can get to the end faster lol. Thanks Nicole for the tip and I hope you have a great week!

  8. Sorry to hear your week dragged on, That baby shower does sound fun and the harry Potter cookies look great!

I always find it heard to decide when it DNF, I usually DNF when I reluctantly start reading or when I feel that it just isn’t the book for me. Sometimes it’s better to DNF than force yourself to read something you don’t enjoy but it’s hard to make that decision sometimes when you are curious about some things.

    Have a great week!

    • Kathy

I’m going to try to read a little more of the book before I DNF. Thanks for the advice Lola and I hope you have a great week!
