Weekly Wrap-Up #132

My Weekly Wrap Up is my version of The Sunday Post hosted by Kim at Caffeinated Book Reviewer. This weekly meme is a chance to share news about your blog, books and life. It is also a perfect opportunity to meet bloggers and add more books to your collection.

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a good week.  Last weekend I went to the SacAnime convention with my daughters. We had fun and I was really surprised at how much this convention has grown. We first attended this convention 8 years ago and it was held in a hotel. There was a very small section for vendors and low attendance.  Now it is being held at the Sacramento convention center and there was thousands of people. My daughters dressed as their favorite characters from the game Overwatch and I was surprised with how popular this game was.  In the artist alley I saw a lot of art work for Overwatch and the panel with the voice actors was packed with fans.  It was a fun panel and it was clear the actors love the characters they bring to life.  Luckily, I had a 4-day weekend so I can rest from the convention. Did you do anything fun this week?

I finally finished listening to A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas.  I listened to the 3 books from this series back-to-back and now I’m burned out on fantasy lol.  It was a good story but each book was 24 hours long.  There were parts that dragged so I think I’ll read her books next time (so I can skip through the boring parts lol).

Currently reading or listening to:

  • The Empty Grave by Jonathan Stroud (ARC for Blog Tour)

Here is what happened since my last Weekly Wrap Up:

Reviews coming soon:

  • East in Paradise by Tif Marcelo (eARC)
  • A Court of Thorns and Roses, A Court of Mist and Fury, & A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas (Audiobooks)

Outlander season 3 premieres Sunday night!!  I cannot wait! I’ve read the books but I’ve avoided all the spoilers.  I want to be surprised while watching this season.  Who else is excited for Outlander?

To everyone who has been affected by the recent storms or fires, I hope you are safe. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

  1. OUTLANDER!!! I am so excited. That finale left me in tears. I admire anyone who can listen to fantasy books. I can only do audio for contemporaries; fantasy books are too complex. I get lost, and SJM writes monster books. That’s commitment. That’s awesome that the con is growing. It’s kind of cool when you get in on the ground floor.

I can’t wait for Outlander and I might cheat and watch it online (now that it is available lol). SJM books were good but too long to listen as audiobooks. But I did buy some of the Throne of Glass audiobooks when they were on sale so I’ll listen to those but read the other books lol. Thanks Sam and I hope you have a great week!

I hope it becomes available for you to watch soon. Thanks Laurel-Rain and I hope you have a great week!

The conventions are fun and it’s my special time with my daughters (besides going to the mall lol). I need to get the DVDs for Outlander too. I hope you get to watch the show and enjoy it as much as I do. Thanks Kim for stopping by and have a great week!

  2. Glad you had fun at the convention! Oh man 24 hour audio books always seem to drag a bit for me but I do like fantasy on audio. I was thinking of finally watching Outlander. I might binge after this season! Have a great week!

Those were long audiobooks but I’ll have to see how long it takes me to read her books. I need to finish her other series soon. I hope you get to watch Outlander. I love it lol. Thanks Grace for stopping by and I hope you have a great week!

  3. SacAnime sounds awesome. I love how cosplay and anime and just all that stuff has exploded, and so many people have fun with it. Nice that families can experience it together too .

    Have fun w/ Outlander!!

These conventions have gotten really popular so it’s nice there are more to attend. It’s a nice time to spend with my daughters. Thanks Greg and I hope you have a great week!

  4. I haven’t read any of the Outlander books but the show is calling me! It looks fantastic! The convention sounds really fun and how great that it’s grown so much. I’m not really familiar with the game but I do love that the voice actors seem to genuinely enjoy bringing the characters to life. That alone has me wanting to look into it. Have a great week!

The Outlander books are great but they are long with a lot of historical facts. You don’t really need to read the books to enjoy the show. I think that might help some people since I keep saying “that’s not how happened in the book” while I’m watching lol. Overwatch is fun to play but I would rather read and watch the kids play lol. Thanks Katherine for stopping by and I hope you have a great week!

Outlander is one of my favorite love stories. I hope you enjoy it. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a great week!

They are a lot of fun. I like seeing all the people in costumes and shopping in the artist section. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a great week!

  5. Sounds like you had a great time at the convention. Things like that growing as upsides and down. It is great to see that it is doing really well. More vendors will show up, so there is a lot more to see. But then you also have to deal with more of a crowd (which is something I avoid if I can. I’m very much an introvert at heart). Glad you’re having a great week.

    • Kathy

I’m not looking forward to the crowds but it is nice to see the event grow. Especially in the artist alley. It’s nice seeing a lot of talented artists (some that are local) having a place to showcase their work. Thank you Melanie and I hope you have a great week!!

  6. Sounds like you had a lot of fun at the convention with your daughters. I attended a few anime conventions here, they are fun. And that must’ve been impressive to see how much that convention had grown. Sometimes books in the same genre in a row can get me burned out o that genre too, which is why i try to vary genres a bit when possible. Have a great week!

    • Kathy

It’s been a long time since I’ve read a genre back-to-back. The series is interesting so I didn’t want to forget what happened. But since the books were really long I got burned out lol. I’ll probably not read her books in a row again lol. Thanks Lola and I hope you have a great week too!
