Top Ten Tuesday – Books Featuring Characters That Cook

Posted September 25, 2017 by Kathy in Discussion, Top 10 Tuesday / 18 Comments

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week a new Top Ten list will be featured. Everyone is welcome to join! A list of 10 is just a suggestion, but you can do a list of 3 or 5 or 20. Your post, your choice! For more info stop by here. Link back to The Broke and the Bookish to visit other bloggers’ lists.  This is a fun way to get to know fellow bloggers.

This week’s topic is a bloggers choice – Ten Books That Feature Characters ____________: Examples: Ten books that feature black main characters, characters who hold interesting jobs, characters who have a mental illness, characters that are adopted, characters that play sports, etc, etc.

My list is Books That Feature Characters That Cook!

Obviously, everyone can cook but I’m talking about characters whose cooking made my mouth water, I was crazy with cravings and went on a mission to find the food to eat.  And their cooking is a foodie twist to add some fun to their story.

Lou from The Coincidence of Coconut Cake by Amy E. Reichert…Food is what brings Al and Lou together. Lou owns a restaurant but it is also their foodie dates that made my mouth water.

Sanna from The Simplicity of Cider by Amy E. Reichert…Her cider had me running out to grab my first bottle of cider to try (and I loved it).

Remy “Jinx” DuPre from Irresistible You by Kate Meader…He is a sexy Cajun hockey player who makes Southern dishes for his lady.

Camille and Drew from North to You by Tif Marcelo….She owns a food truck and makes gourmet meals to die for. He cooks a traditional Filipino dish (for the first time) to impress her. (The picture is of a Filipino dessert called Halo Halo).

Roxie Callahan from Nuts by Alice Clayton ….She makes cakes, pies and more! Her zombie pickling classes sound like a lot of fun too.

This week’s list is only of 5 books.  Let me know of any books I should read!

Thanks Chrissi! I’m always thinking about food and love watching the Food Network. So I’m sold at the mention of food in a story lol.

  1. The books that come to mind for me when I think of characters who cook is the Elemental Assassins series by Jennifer Estep. The main character, Gin Blanco, not only owns and runs a barbecue restaurant, she also cooks when she is stressed. Those books always make me hungry.

That’s a series I need to read. Now that I know there’s BBQ the books are moving up on my TBR lol. Thanks Melanie!

OMG I loved Heartless and Cath’s treats made me hungry. I can’t believe I forgot about her lol. Thanks Jo!!

  2. I love books with food, and I have most of these on my TBR. I cannot think of any appreciable cooking in my recent adult reads (other than the pot cookies being baked in After All by Karina Halle), but there is a ton in my YA books.

  3. Awesome topic! I can get behind food lol. Cider is so good! Now I want some. And food trucks are such a cool thing now. Nice list.

I love the cider I found. I’ve always wanted to try it and now I can’t get enough lol. I’m always excited when I see food trucks lol. Thanks Greg!

Alice Clayton’s Hudson Valley series had a lot of food that made me hungry lol. Thanks Katherine!

Sanna was an unusual character but I had to try the cider lol. I love food books too and it’s usually what catches my eye if it’s part of the cover or title lol. Thanks Grace!!!

Thanks Leslie! The Coincidence of Coconut Cake is a cute story and it has the recipe for the cake. I didn’t try the recipe since I would probably eat the entire cake (none of my family would eat it lol).
