Book Looks was created by Jen at Books and Other Happy Ever Afters, combining our love of books & fashion with book cover or scene inspired outfits. Waiting On Wednesday was a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.
This week’s feature is:
An unlikely teenager starts a feminist revolution at a small-town Texan high school in the new novel from Jennifer Matheiu, author of The Truth About Alice.
MOXIE GIRLS FIGHT BACK!
Vivian Carter is fed up. Fed up with a school administration at her small-town Texas high school that thinks the football team can do no wrong. Fed up with sexist dress codes, hallway harassment, and gross comments from guys during class. But most of all, Viv Carter is fed up with always following the rules.
Viv’s mom was a tough-as-nails, punk rock Riot Grrrl in the ’90s, and now Viv takes a page from her mother’s past and creates a feminist zine that she distributes anonymously to her classmates. She’s just blowing off steam, but other girls respond. As Viv forges friendships with other young women across the divides of cliques and popularity rankings, she realizes that what she has started is nothing short of a girl revolution.
Moxie is a book about high school life that will make you wanna riot!
Release Day September 19, 2017
This cover grabbed my attention the moment I saw it. Then I read the synopsis and immediately added this to my TBR list. With our current political state in the US we need more books like Moxie for our young readers. I can’t wait to read this book!!
If this is your first time visiting my blog I create looks inspired by book covers. Most of my looks are glamorous but for Moxie I wanted to keep the look fashionable but still focus on the message. My 19-year-old daughter Marie helped me with this look. The dress with converse is stylish and comfortable for running around a school campus. The buttons for the school bag makes a statement of equal rights for all to see.
What book are you waiting for?
