Chance for Love
A Gansett Island Novella

Billionaire Jared James has everything a man could ever want except for the one thing money can’t buy…
After forty days holed up in his house on Gansett Island nursing a broken heart, Jared James decides enough is enough. Determined to snap out of the funk he slipped into after his girlfriend refused his marriage proposal, Jared organizes a party for the friends who’ve seen him through the worst of his heartache. Now if only he could stop thinking about the love of his life and how he will survive the rest of his days without her…

She was Elisabeth all her life until Jared made her his Lizzie…
Elisabeth “Lizzie” Sutter knows she has no business chasing Jared after she turned down his lovely, heartfelt marriage proposal in a moment of sheer panic. It didn’t take long for her to realize how foolish she’d been. Now all she can do is hope it’s not too late to set things right with the one man she can’t live without…

Author’s Note
We got to know Jared in Time for Love, when David and Daisy befriended David’s elusive landlord who’d come to the island seeking refuge after a bad breakup. We saw him again in Meant for Love, when he reconnected with Wharton classmate Jenny Wilks. Readers were eager to know more about the woman who’d broken Jared’s heart, and they wanted to know what I had in store for him. The more I thought about his story, the more I realized what I needed to do. I hope you’ll enjoy this brief visit with some Gansett Island friends as well as the introduction of a new couple.

Reading Challenges: COYER Blackout Winter Storm 2016

Chance for Love is a sweet second chance romance but I was a little disappointed in this. I love this series but I think this novella was too short to introduce a new character. Fans first met billionaire Jared James in Time for Love, so we already know he is suffering from a broken heart. In Chance for Love we get more details in his breakup with his ex-girlfriend Lizzie. Weeks have passed since their breakup and just when Jared has decided to live again Lizzie makes a surprise visit. I do love second chance romances but this felt rushed. I know this is a novella but they got over the reason for their breakup really quick. This was too short for me to get to know Lizzie and like her. She was ok but I couldn’t believe her reason for hurting him. It was for the craziest reason and it wasn’t justified. Despite my problems with Lizzie this novella was enjoyable because of guest appearances from some of my favorite characters from the series.

Even though I didn’t fall in love with Jared and Lizzie I do want to continue reading this series. I love the small island setting and the fun characters.

  1. Bummer, I am glad you enjoyed it but I was hoping you would love it.
It is hard to meet new people in Novellas and I sort of think in a series those should be to extend an already known characters story. Glad you at least enjoyed it.
    Awesome Review!

This could have been better but I did enjoy it. And I’m getting caught up on the series. Thanks Michelle!

  2. Too bad it wasn’t all you hoped it would be. I do like second chance romances, but perhaps novellas aren’t quite the right setting for them? Because for the second chance to work out, you need to see problems dealt with and really know the characters. Great review!

I agree a second chance romance wasn’t right for a novella. They have so much to work out and it felt too rushed (and unrealistic). Thanks Berls!

At least I’m getting caught up on the series. I’m so behind and it was nice to visit with some of my favorite characters from previous books. Thanks Grace!

  3. This sounds like a fun series despite being disappointed in this one. I don’t like introducing a new character in a novella either. It always seems to work better if it’s two characters that you’re familiar with so you don’t have to waste time and pages getting to know them.

This was disappointing but I still enjoy this series. I love how it is set on a small island and the close-knit community is friendly and supportive. Jared and Lizzie will most likely make an appearance in the next books, so hopefully I’ll be able to make a better connection with them. Thanks Katherine!

  4. this is totally why I have an issue with novellas, if a new character is introduced we don’t get a chance to really really connect with them.

I know!! But it was nice to see some of my favorite characters again. And this quick read is added to my Goodreads challenge (which I am behind on lol). Thanks Lily!

  5. Well, I’m happy it wasn’t a total bust but I do understand where you’re coming from. Novellas just don’t always fit – there’s just not enough time for the character development we’d like. Maybe you’ll get a little from of this couple in a future book? Nice review!

I’m sure I’ll see this couple again so hopefully more time will be spent on their story. Thank you Brandee!!

  6. Too bad this was a bit too short to really enjoy. That’s the downside of novella’s, sometimes they can feel a bit rushed or there’s not enough depth or time to get to know the characters. I also enjoy second chance romance,s but it’s a bit sad when they get over the reason of their breakup too fast as it makes you wonder why they broke up in the first time. But it does sound fun how you still got this character his story through a novella. And that sounds nice how there were appearances of other characters from the series.

I agree! I like novella’s better if they have characters I really like, so it’s like spending time with them again. This was disappointing but at least I got it off my TBR and getting closer to being caught up on the series. Thanks Lola!
