Serafina's defeat of the Man in the Black Cloak has brought her out of the shadows and into the daylight realm of her home, Biltmore Estate. Every night, she visits her mother in the forest, eager to learn the ways of the catamount. But Serafina finds herself caught between her two worlds: She's too wild for Biltmore's beautifully dressed ladies and formal customs and too human to fully join her kin.
Late one night Serafina encounters a strange and terrifying figure in the forest and is attacked by the vicious wolfhounds that seem to be under his control. Even worse, she's convinced that the stranger was not alone, that he has sent his accomplice into Biltmore in disguise.
Someone is wreaking havoc at the estate. A mysterious series of attacks test Serafina's role as Biltmore's protector, culminating in a tragedy that tears Serafina's best friend and only ally, Braeden Vanderbilt, from her side. Heartbroken, she flees.
Deep in the forest, Serafina comes face-to-face with the evil infecting Biltmore - and discovers its reach is far greater than she'd ever imagined. All the humans and creatures of the Blue Ridge Mountains are in terrible danger. For Serafina to defeat this new evil before it engulfs her beloved home, she must search deep inside herself and embrace the destiny that has always awaited her.

Serafina and the Twisted Staff is another exciting adventure. This series gets better with each book.

This book picks up where Serafina and the Black Cloat left off so I suggest you read that to fully understand the storyline.  I have enjoyed this series because of the sweet Serafina.  After living years unnoticed in the Biltmore estate Serafina is now enjoying life with her best friend Braedan. She still feels awkward at times but Braedan and her Pa is there to support her. Serafina and Braedan are up to the challenge of solving another mystery and this time the level of creepiness has increased. There were so many scenes that made my skin crawl. Interesting new characters were introduced and I’m curious to see how they fit in with future books.  This is a Middle Grade series so the mystery wasn’t too hard for me to solve and I did find there were some slow parts of the story. Despite that I still enjoyed the twists in the story. Learning more about Serafina and Braedan was eye-opening and leaves room for the series to go in so many exciting directions.  I can’t wait to read the next book!

Serafina and the Twisted Staff is a thrilling story for readers of all ages. I highly recommend this series to readers looking for action, adventure, and mystery. Serafina is a courageous heroine you will grow to love and cheer for.

4 Star Audiobook Review

Cassandra Campbell returns as the narrator for book 2 in the Serafina series and does another entertaining performance. I love the sweet Southern accent she creates for Serafina and she also brings emotion to her performance. In this book Serafina is still adjusting to making more friends in Biltmore and Cassandra captures her innocence and frustration. This is an exciting series to listen as an audio and I hope Ms. Campbell returns as narrator for the next book.

  1. I’m so glad to see you enjoyed the 2nd book even more than the first! Serafina and the Black Cloak is coming up on my audio book list and I can’t wait to listen to it! This one sounds amazing as well and I don’t think I really realized that it was set around the Biltmore Estate. What fun! I’ve only been there a few times but I love it. I’m looking forward to visiting it in fiction.

I hope you enjoy the first book. Sometimes I need a break from adult books so this series is a refreshing change for me. I love the historical setting and the friendship of these characters. Thanks Katherine for stopping by!

  2. This is currently on my Priority TBR list, as it was nominated for a CYBILS Awards. I still need to read the first one though, so it may be December before I get to it.

I hope you enjoy this. Since this is a middle grade the mystery was easy to solve but I still enjoyed the adventure the characters have. Thank you for stopping by!
