Weekly Wrap-Up #90

Posted February 27, 2016 by Kathy in Wrap-Up / 17 Comments

My Weekly Wrap Up is my version of The Sunday Post hosted by Kim at Caffeinated Book Reviewer. This weekly meme is a chance to share news about your blog, books and life. It is also a perfect opportunity to meet bloggers and add more books to your collection.

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a good week.

I had another normal week being busy with work and family. We are still fighting over using the internet in our house but we are working together to make sure we all get computer time. I was able to get posts up while my husband took a break from his video game. I’m almost done listening to Winter which is really good but it’s long (98 chapters)! I’m getting close to the end and I’m getting anxious to see what happens.

I have a question for WordPress bloggers – have you been getting a lot of spam comments? I’ve been noticing a lot of spam comments on the same post (a post over a year old). I usually don’t get a lot of spam comments but lately I’ve been getting over 20 a day. I am deleting the comments but I’m wondering why I am getting so many. I have the Akismet plugin but I have never received this many spam comments before.

Currently reading or listening to:

Winter by Marissa Meyer (audiobook)

Here is what happened last week on the blog:

Beyond The Books – My Scariest Moment

Book Review – Feverborn

Surprise Release – Never Say Love

Bookish Mood Board – Last Ride to Graceland

Here is what is happening this week on the blog:

ARC Review – Last Ride to Graceland by Kim Wright

Book Review – Stolen Chances by Elisabeth Naughton

Around the blogosphere

Star Wars fans have to check out this tumblr page that has a hilarious series called “The Adventures of Han and Ben”.  Spend some family time with Han, Leia and Kylo Ren.

How was your week?

  1. Good Gravy 98 chapters! I haven’t read that yet but now I am think I will need a month to read that much since I am so slow reading lol.

I haven’t been getting a lot of spam, I think in december I got a bunch which was weird I also have Akismet. Maybe you can ask your host company for a suggestion on what plugin you can use with Akismet to block it out.

I hope you have a great week, Kathy! Happy Reading! ox

Winter is long but I’m listening to the audiobook. It helps to listen to it while in the car lol. I’ll ask my host company, thanks for the tip!! Have a great week Michelle!

  2. Wow! I didn’t realize Winter was so long! I’m looking forward to starting Cinder in audio book form so I’ve got awhile before I get to Winter but hope you’re enjoying it! That’s weird about the spam comments. I’m not wordpress but every once in awhile I’ll randomly get comments on older posts. Most of of the time they’re spam but I’ve gotten a couple of really rude comments too. No idea what that’s about! Have a great week!

I just finished Winter and I loved it. I was listening to the audiobook and the narrator did an amazing performance. It was long but it was worth it. I hope you enjoy Cinder! Thanks Katherine and have a great week!

  3. That’s… a lot of chapters. 🙂 Must be a big one. I like a good chunkster every now and then. Hope the spam thing resolves… such a pain. And I’ll have to go check out that Star Wars page…:)

Thanks Laura! It’s strange how I was getting a lot so hopefully it will stop lol. Hope you have a great week!

  4. That sounds a bit frustrating with the internet time battle, but that’s nice you managed to make sure everyone got a bit of internet time. I can remember when we only had one computer growing up and it was also deciding when who could use the compter.
I have two plugins for spam so they filter everything out. I never notice how many spam comments I receive because of that. Although I’ve heard one blogger once who disabled comments on older posts as she only got spam comments on them. Maybe some spammers found your site or you landed on some kind of list? I am not sure how spammers find your blog, who knows how spammers work? But I asusme it’s normal to have weeks with more or less of them.
    I hope you’ll have a great week!

The internet is driving us crazy but we plan to change providers at the end of this month. I can’t wait lol. Thanks Lola!

  5. I’m getting a lot more spam comments lately than usual as well, and sometimes they arrive on very old posts. I wonder if the bots are actually looking for old posts to try to fall through the cracks of my spamfilter…
I’m glad you’re able to find balance when it comes to the internet! We have a pretty good connection, but it slows down a bit if everybody is trying to get things done online at the same time.
    Have a wonderful week, Kathy!

It’s strange about the spam! But I took Kim’s advice and changed my settings to allow for only 90 days. Hopefully that will help. We are trying to get along and share the internet. I can’t wait until the end of the month to change providers. Thanks Lexxie!
