Weekly Wrap-Up #85

Posted January 17, 2016 by Kathy in Weekly Wrap-Up / 26 Comments

My Weekly Wrap Up is my version of The Sunday Post hosted by Kim at Caffeinated Book Reviewer. This weekly meme is a chance to share news about your blog, books and life. It is also a perfect opportunity to meet bloggers and add more books to your collection.

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a good week. I had a disappointing week since I didn’t win the Powerball lol. If you are not familiar with this the Powerball is a lottery that is played in multiple states. Wednesday’s jackpot was $1.5 billion dollars!! My husband and I had office pools for the lottery and it’s sad we didn’t win big. My office did win $24 so we are buying more tickets for Saturday’s jackpot of $40 million. It would be nice to win some of this money!! I would quit my job and find a part-time job to work at home. Oh well maybe we’ll be lucky on Saturday. Did you play the Powerball?

I need help! Is anyone participating in a Valentine’s blog hop giveaways? I have some romance books I want to giveaway (so I can have room for new books) and I like participating in blog hop giveaways. I get more entries during the hops. I did find the Romance is in the Air hop hosted by Book Hounds but it is only for “clean” adult books. The books I want to giveaway don’t fit that requirement.

In the entertainment world we lost some incredible people this week. I was so sad to hear that David Bowie, Alan Rickman (Harry Potter) and Bob Denver (Gilligan’s Island) passed away this week. David Bowie and Gilligan’s Island were a huge part of my childhood. Alan Rickman was a talented actor who brought life to some memorable characters. They will all be missed. Here is one of my favorite songs from David Bowie Modern Love (1983) and it brings back memories of watching MTV and dancing to the music videos.

Currently reading or listening to:

I’ve been reading The Lie and The Lady by Kate Noble and I really like it so far.  I haven’t read a historical romance in a long time so I’m really enjoying the time period and the story is a nice combination of romance and mystery.  I started to listen to the audiobook Prudence by Gail Carriger but then stopped.  This is a spinoff of the Parasol Protectorate series which I haven’t read yet.  I felt lost even though the reviews for Prudence  said it wasn’t necessary to read the other series.  I’ll have to read this another time.  I am listening to The Rose Society by Marie Lu and I think it is ok so far.

Reading soon:

Feverborn by Karen Marie Moning

Here is what happened last week on the blog:

The Hollow Boy by Jonathan Stroud (audiobook review)

Soul Scorched by Donna Grant (ARC review)

  1. Ooh, I’d completely forgotten about Valentines day and all the giveaways that will be around but now I’m definitely going to keep an eye out for them 🙂 I’ve had the first book in the Parasol Protectorate series in my tbr pile for a while so hopefully I’ll read it soon… ish. I hope you have a good week!

I have so many romance books and I need to make space for new ones lol. I’ve had the Parasol Protectorate on my TBR too so maybe I’ll get to it this year lol. Thanks Zareena for stopping by and have a great week!

  2. I was disappointed I didn’t win the Powerball either. Or rather that my husband didn’t. I forgot to buy a ticket. I know he would have shared with me though. I hope. LOL

It was so sad this week with all the deaths. I heard the actor who played Grizzly Adams died this past week as well. I used to love that show.

I hope you have a good week, Kathy!

    • Kathy

I hope he would have shared too lol. It would have been nice to win but at least there was multiple winners. I’d be scared to win the entire jackpot, that’s a lot of money lol. I remember Grizzly Adams and that is sad to hear he passed away too. That was a great show!! Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a great week!

  3. I didn’t win either, I didn’t have a plan but my dad wanted a private airplane if he won 🙂

This wasn’t a good week for celebs, I hope this beginning of the year isn’t a glimpse at what the year will be like.

Have a great week, Kathy! Happy Reading! ox

We talked about a private airplane too lol. Oh well, we are stuck making our millions the hard way lol. I hope this year goes better for everyone. Thanks Michelle and have a great week!

  4. It’s been a sad week losing a lot of beloved talent in the world. So, so sad, but it made me reflect on nice memories, too. I love the movie Love Actually, and the scene with Alan Rickman’s character trying to buy the necklace makes me laugh all the time! Also, THANK YOU for the shout out! You’re so sweet, Kathy! If I see any upcoming blog hops, I’ll let you know. Have a nice week and happy reading!

It was so sad to hear Alan Rickman passed away and I loved the movie Love Actually. You’re welcome Grace!! Happy Blogiversary and I’ll check out the blog hop you mentioned =)

  5. Ah, the Powerball. I didn’t buy a ticket but my husband did an office pool. I don’t know if they won anything haha. I don’t really see the point in it xD

We tried to be billionaires but I guess we have to do it the hard way lol. Thanks Molly for stopping by and have a great week!

  6. Ah, it would have been nice to even just win the million dollars, not the whole amount. So much I could have done with just that. Oh well. Back to work and my life. Hope you have a great week! You can check out my Sunday Post in the link below.

I kept saying I don’t need all of the jackpot, just a little something would have been nice lol. Thanks Lisa for stopping by and have a great week!

I know!! We were dreaming of all the things we would do with the money lol. Oh well, maybe next time we’ll both win something! Have a great week Laura!

  7. Glad you are liking The Lie and the Lady, I have it to review so I am trying to get through The Game and the Governess as I like going in order…lol..and well I have had this netgalley for a while and need to get it read. 🙂 So far it’s okay but I am not far. 🙂

    Happy reading!

I started reading The Lie and the Lady not knowing it was the second book. But it was easy to follow and now I want to read the first book. I hope you like it. Thanks Stormi for stopping by and have a great week!

  8. Ugh! I thought for sure someone I know would hit it (like my husband or sister in FL, maybe), but alas it went to some strangers. You are so good to include actually current events in the world in your post here. I always forget to talk about current events that people might care about. It is devastating that David Bowie and Alan Rickman both lost their battle to cancer. Cancer sucks.
Oh! I will be reading The Young Elites in the next week or so (for a bookclub). Glad to hear your are enjoying the sequel.
Also, I am looking forward to seeing what you thought of Cress (it was one of my favorites).

    • Kathy

If I didn’t win I was hoping my family did so we can share the money lol. Oh well, maybe next time. It was sad news about David Bowie and Alan Rickman. I had no idea they had cancer but from what I hear they were surrounded by their loved ones when they passed. That is comforting to know that they weren’t alone. I loved Cress and I’m waiting to borrow the next audiobooks in the series. Thanks Karen for stopping by and have a great week!

    • Kathy

It was a sad week but they will live forever in their music and movies. Thanks Laurel-Rain and have a great week!

  9. 1.5 billion? Holy smokes, I need to get my #$% a ticket LOL. Seriosuly someone has to win right? Might as well be one of us! Ha ha I wish. If I won then I could pretend blogging pays the bills. 🙂

That video does remind me of good times and music. Some great music back then…

    • Kathy

It would have been nice to win. And I would have blogged fulltime lol. MTV was better when they played videos. We had some great music back then! Thanks Greg for stopping by and have a great week!

  10. I heard some people talking about a lottery, but didn’t know where that was about, so thanks for explaining. I am sorry you didn’t win, although that’s fun your office won some money and you bought new tickets with it for the next jackpot.
I think Anna from Herding Cats and Burning Soup is doing a hop somewhere soon, but not sure if it’s a valentine’s hop.
    I hope you’ll have a great week!

    • Kathy

It would have been nice to win but at least we tried lol. I’ll check out the Herding Cats and Burning Soup hop. Thanks Lola!

    • Kathy

I only play when it’s a big jackpot. But I haven’t won anything yet lol. Thanks Lexxie!
