Weekly Wrap-Up #83

Posted January 3, 2016 by Kathy in Wrap-Up / 20 Comments

My Weekly Wrap Up is my version of The Sunday Post hosted by Kim at Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all had a great holiday. Normally we go out to dinner but this year we had take out for our favorite Chinese restaurant and stayed home. Everyone was happy with these plans. My husband and daughters played their new video game Star Wars Battlefront and I finished my last book for 2015 to reach my Goodreads goal of 100 books. For New Year’s Eve I get the house ready to bring in a successful year. Filipinos have a lot of superstitions for New Year’s but I only do a couple: clean the house, put coins at the windows and doors, and put 12 round fruit on the table. The 12 fruit are for each month of the coming year and anything round signifies prosperity. This is my first year doing the fruit and when I went to the grocery I had a hard time finding fruit. I didn’t want to waste money and food on something we wouldn’t eat (like a coconut) so I cheated a little with blackberries (which are a cluster of round tiny fruits).

If you are on Instagram you may have seen everyone’s #2015BestNine (created by 2015bestnine.com). The website selects users top 9 posts based on the number of likes. Here is mine:

2015 Best 9

After seeing my best nine I realized it was missing a lot of my favorite photos so I created my Favorite Author Memories of 2015 (Katy Regnery, TK Leigh, Jennifer Armentrout, Jenny Han, Marie Lu, Sabaa Tahir, James Dashner, Suzanne Young and Rae Carson) and Favorite Fangirl Memories of 2015 (Ian Somerhalder, CW Arrow, CW Legends of Tomorrow, CW The Flash, Outlander, Star Wars).

Last weekend we finally watched Star Wars: The Force Awakens and we loved it. My daughter Tyler is now a fan of the movies and is always surfing the web for new Star Wars information. She found this clip of all the stars singing the anthem and it is really good.

My daughter loves this Star Wars video and watches it everyday lol. The last week of 2015 I had to read 2 books so hopefully for 2016 I’ll be better organized lol. Thanks Katherine!

  1. I love the idea of the round fruit…and they do look delicious as well. Enjoy!

I’ve been working away at my e-books still languishing on my Kindle. I have a few from 2014 still…but I’m making good progress on the 2015 books. I joined a challenge “Read the Books I Buy,” which will suffice for cleaning out my Kindle, as I mostly buy e-books.

Good luck on cleaning yours out….and here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES

That is a good challenge. I’m focusing on ARCs and books I already have before I get anymore. It’s hard but I just have too many books already lol. Thanks for stopping by Laurel and have a great week!

  2. What a fun New Years, chinese sounds awesome. I may have to do that next year. 🙂 Interesting about traditions- I loved the bit about the blackberries. Gotta do what you gotta do LOL.

Your Instagram pic reminded me I never read Liars Inc. I had that on my list at one point, musta forgot it. And great pics too- Star Wars, Arrow. How fun.

I’m so glad you guys liked Star Wars!

Thanks Greg! I even had to use a tomato lol. I have to read Liars Inc. too! It’s an ARC I won so hopefully I’ll get to it this year. Have a great week!

  3. I’m more than happy to stay home on New Years Eve. I like the round fruit tradition. We always have pork for the new year. I guess because I heard it’s good luck, but I do love pork roast. I then take the leftovers and make BBQ out of it. 🙂 We enjoyed Star Wars. My 16-yr-old is a huge fan.

We like staying home too because the crowds can be crazy. That is a nice tradition you have and great for leftovers. Thanks and have a great week!

A quiet celebration at home is nice. I hate dealing with the crowds and potential drunk drivers. Thanks Stormi and Happy New Year!

  4. Takeout and a quiet evening at home sounds like a great way to celebrate new year’s eve. How interesting to hear about your traditions on new years. I never heard of those before, the one with the 12 round fruits sound challenging, but fun too. That fruit picture is so pretty with all the round shapes!
I still haven’t seen the newest star wars movie, but I do want to. I am really curious about in which direction they take the story and how much i will enjoy it. Have a great week!

My mom has always told me about the round shapes as good luck. I think Filipinos adopted this belief from the Chinese. So this year was the first time I used fruit. It was fun and we had some delicious fruit to snack on after lol. I’m wondering how the next Star Wars films will be too. I hope you get to see it and enjoy it too. Thanks Lola!

Happy New Year Grace!! My mom has always put round food on the table but I only heard of the 12 different fruits last year. It was fun shopping for the right fruit lol. I loved Star Wars and I can’t wait to see the next movie.

It was interesting to see my best 9 but the images weren’t my favorite of the year lol. I hope you get to meet Jennifer! She was really nice to talk to and her line was long lol. Thanks for stopping by!
