Weekly Wrap-Up #69

Posted September 13, 2015 by Kathy in Wrap-Up / 18 Comments

My Weekly Wrap Up is my version of The Sunday Post hosted by Kim at Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

This was another busy week with work and the kid’s homework. But what made it worse was our weather – we had a heat wave with degrees over a 100. The hot weather always makes us feel miserable and cranky but it started to cool down on Saturday. I can’t wait for colder weather but with our area we probably won’t feel it until November.

I am behind in reading my ARCs but I am so glad I started listening to audiobooks. I listen to them during my morning and evening commute so these are helping me with my Goodreads goal of reading 100 books this year. Here is what I’ve listened to this month:

Talon (Talon #1) by Julie Kagawa – 4 Stars. I liked this story about young dragon shifters but it did drag in some parts. I thought the main character Ember was irritating and stubborn but the story was interesting and had some exciting action scenes. I want to read or listen the next book.

The Calling (Endgame #1) by James Frey – DNF. I only listened to 30 minutes of this book and then I gave up. I was bored! The book begins with a chapter for each character, basically an introduction to them and how they enter the Endgame (a battle similar to Hunger Games). But none of the characters were appealing to me. I wanted to start this series because I got the second book at Comic Con, but now I’m going to give the book away.

The Screaming Staircase (Lockwood & Co. #1) by Jonathan Stroud – I am almost done with this and I am loving it! This YA Paranormal adventure is getting me in the mood for Halloween. I don’t like horror and ghost stories so this is the level of scary I can handle lol. I started this series because I got the second book at Comic Con so this is definitely a series I want to continue reading or listening to.

I hope you all have a great week!

FitReaders Update

I did nothing during the week because I was tired and also because of the heat. But on Saturday I went walking with my daughter Kailee. She’s 12 years old and wants to do better in her PE (Physical Education) class. They have started running the track and she was feeling dizzy this week. I told her it’s probably because of the hot weather but she is determined to get in shape. We went to her school and started with a walk and built up to a jog. I reminded her to drink water while we were exercising so when we were done she felt good. The weather was cooler so I really hope it stays this way for her sake. Luckily this is her first class for the day so the weather should be cooler. We plan to walk/jog together on the weekends, so this will help me to stay motivated. Also it’s nice to spend alone time with her.

How was your week?

  1. Oh I have had an audiobook of The Screaming Staircase (Lockwood & Co. #1) by Jonathan Stroud for a while and really need to listen to it. I hope you continue to enjoy it.

We had 90 degree days and are in VT without AC so I feel your pain – I am glad it is starting to cool down here.

I just finished The Screaming Staircase and it was really good. I really enjoyed the narrator (I love her accent) so I hope you get to listen to this soon. It can be awful without AC and it is supposed to be a cooler week here. Thanks for stopping by and have a great week!

Thanks Tracy! At first I thought I wouldn’t enjoy audiobooks but now I am hooked on them. Thanks for stopping by and have a great week!

I saw this series mentioned in the COYER FB group and it reminded me that I had the second book. I just finished The Screaming Staircase and loved it! I’m on the waiting list for the second book (I loved the narrator and it will be faster for me to listen to the book then read it lol). Thanks Michelle!!

  2. 100 degrees- ugh. That’s too hot for me. 🙂 We actually had a pretty mild summer- we got a little heat but not the heatwave we had a few summers ago. so it was nice. I feel for you guys with those temps…

Hope your reads are good this week!

The heat is awful here especially since we need the rain. But it is supposed to cool down this week. Thanks Greg and have a great week!

The heat makes me tired too and I’ve been going to bed early because of it. Hopefully we can have cooler weather soon. Thanks Laura and have a great week!

When it is hot here it starts early in the morning. But that is the best time to do errands or else it is way too hot in the afternoon. I’m addicted to audiobooks now! I’m borrowing them from my library so the choices are limited but I have been lucky in finding the ones I’ve really wanted. Thanks Kathryn!

  3. We had some warmer days this week and then it got cooler, so I hope it stays cooler. I am ready for autumn. I hope you can catched up on your ARC’s soon, my review books pile is crazy at the moment, even though I keep reading them I also keep adding too many new ones.

I don’t like the too scary books, but I do like some slightly scary paranormal books. i read a good vampire romance book last week that also had soem good action scenes. Have a great week!

We had a great time and she took off without me lol. I started off slow since I haven’t been running lately but it was fun spending time with her. Thanks Jen!
