Beyond The Books – Set A Goal

Posted September 24, 2015 by Kathy in Discussion / 6 Comments

Beyond the Books is a weekly meme hosted by which gives bloggers topics (mostly non-bookish) to discuss about. This is a fun way of learning more about each other. Check out her blog for the schedule of topics.

This week’s topic is:

Set a goal, and a plan on how to get there

For this week’s topic a couple of ideas came to mind. I can make a goal to lose weight but I try to do this each year and I lose motivation. I can also make a goal of organizing our family photos but with the piles of pictures I have I don’t have the energy to go through them (plus no space to store the albums). So I decided to set a goal for something I really have wanted to do: create a TBR jar.

I’ve seen other bloggers create TBR jars and always thought these were a fun idea. Here are some examples that I found showing the different fun ways to decorate your jar:

TBR jars

To create a TBR jar I need the following supplies:

  • A jar (the craft stores were out of stock of the size I wanted so I will have to keep looking for a jar I like)
  • Paper
  • Pens
  • My list of books

  • On the paper I will list the title, author, and location of the book (Nook, Kindle App, library or paperback).
  • I will have books from different genres and new-to-me authors to add variety to my reading list.
  • If I enjoyed reading the first book of a series I will add the next book to the jar.

I have over a 1,000 e-books (a majority were free) so this will take me a while to see what books I have. I do have a busy reading schedule the next couple of months but I would like to start using my jar in December or January.

Now it is your turn. Have you set a goal?

I imagine I will be buying more books with this TBR jar. In the past after I’ve discovered an author I really liked I would automatically buy the next book.

  1. A TBR jar sounds fun. I’m not sure I’d like the random nature of it (I’m a mood reader) but the again that might be fun too. Sometimes it’s the ones you least expect that you end up liking!

I’m a mood reader too so let’s see how well I do with this. But it will be fun to find some books and authors I end up really liking.
