Friday night was the Love and Fifty Sacramento Author Event. The event was sponsored by Fierce and Fabulous Book Diva and hosted by Deenie Bagley, Brandi Flanagan, Kristie from Kristie’s Kaptivating Reviews Book Blog and authors Kimberly Knight, KJ Bell and Erika Van Eck.
This was the first multi-author event in Sacramento so I was really excited to go. My drive was only 15 minutes! Most of the author events have been in the Bay Area (which is at least a 2 hour drive) so it was nice to have something close to home. In attendance was 50 Adult Romance authors and after the signing we watched the Fifty Shades of Grey movie.
I was really excited to meet Monica Murphy, Penny Reid, Kimberly Knight and KJ Bell. Most of the authors were new to me but after talking to them I look forward to reading their books. Everyone was so friendly and I had a great time meeting people from the Facebook Love and Fifty attendees group page. I prefer to read ebooks but I couldn’t pass up on getting some signed books. I also have some new swag that is added to my growing collection. We walked from the hotel to the movie theater and we were lucky to have warm weather. It was so much fun watching the movie with other fans of the book. I can’t wait for the next event (which hopefully will be around the release of the second movie)!
My mini-review of the Fifty Shades of Grey movie
I have to admit that I was not happy with the casting of Ana and Christian. But going into the movie I tried to keep an open mind. Dakota Johnson was amazing as Ana! She perfectly captured Ana’s naivete and was really funny. She had the audience laughing. But I was not impressed with Jamie Dornan as Christian. He is good looking but he didn’t have the intense emotion I imagined while reading the book. I was also surprised with the casting of his brother Elliott. During the making of the film I was only aware of who they casted for Ana and Christian so as soon as I saw actor Luke Grimes I cringed. I imagined Elliott with a clean and preppy look (similar to actor Alex Pettyfer). I liked Luke from the True Blood series but I’m not sure how I’ll like seeing him in the next movies.
Overall I liked the movie and thought they did a great adaptation of the book. I love the soundtrack and need to buy some of the songs. I can’t wait to see the next movie!
Have you seen the movie yet?
