For October I will be doing a Halloween version of Book Looks, featuring books paranormal or thriller books. But Halloween isn’t all about scary monsters. Some creatures like to be fashionable and deadly!
This week’s feature is:
This unique volume combines two modern classics spun from the imagination of national bestselling author Gregory Maguire. Wicked, told from the perspective of Elphaba Thropp, the Wicked Witch of the West, gives the wildly entertaining prehistory of the Emerald City of Oz before the arrival of Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Cowardly Lion, and the Tin Woodsman. The saga continues in Son of a Witch, the whimsical coming-of-age story of Liir, the Wicked Witch’s secret son. Beautifully designed and illustrated, this volume makes the perfect gift for lovers of modern fantasy literature.Wicked/Son of a Witch is part of Barnes & Noble’s Collectible Editions series. Each title in the series presents a classic work in an attractively designed edition bound in durable bonded leather. These books make elegant additions to any home library.
Wicked/Son of a Witch is a special edition that combines the first 2 books of Gregory Maguire’s The Wicked Years series. I’ve never read these books but I have seen the Broadway musical Wicked twice. I loved everything about the musical! So my inspiration for the looks is from the musical.
Glenda, the good witch, is gorgeous and popular. She loves beautiful things so I selected a ballroom gown that I know she would love. Just as in the movie The Wizard of Oz, the gown is breathtaking and fit for royalty (which Glenda is considered since she is the good witch). The diamond star necklace symbolizes her magic wand.
Elphaba, the future Wicked Witch of the West, has been teased all her life because she looks different. So her style is simple but I selected a gown that was sophisticated. It’s a classy and beautiful look. I know she probably wouldn’t wear green (since her skin is green) but I still love the look. The monkey necklace pays tribute to her flying monkey soldiers.
Both ladies are witches but I didn’t want to do the typical witches hat. So each outfit has a stylish headpiece that looks great with their outfit.
What do you think of this look?
