It's been twelve years since Jenny Wilks lost her fiancé in the 9/11 attacks in New York City. Since then she's been floundering, trying to find her way. Taking the job as lighthouse keeper on Gansett Island was the best thing she could've done for herself. On the island she's found amazing friends and a wonderful new life. There's only one thing missing and that's romance. She's recently asked her new friends to fix her up with some of the island's more eligible men. While her friends are busy arranging dates for her, Alex Martinez comes to cut the grass at the lighthouse.
He's given up everything to come home to Gansett to care for his ailing mother…
Alex has gone from cultivating orchids at the US Botanic Garden in Washington to cutting grass on Gansett, like he did as a teenager. Running the family business with his brother while managing their mother's dementia requires Alex's undivided attention until a sexy lighthouse keeper shows him there's much more to life than work and endless obligation.
During a scorching summer heat wave on Gansett, Jenny and Alex take comfort in each other, and what begins as a hot summer fling quickly becomes something much more lasting. But will it hold up beyond the heat wave when real life intrudes on their sexy interlude?
Meant for Love is the 10th book in The McCarthys of Gansett Island series. Each book can be read as a standalone but I recommend you read all the books in order. With each book you get side stories of other characters that were the feature in previous books, so to form a connection with the characters I think it is best to read all the books. But as a warning once you read the first book, Maid for Love, you will get hooked on the series! Maid for Love ebook version is currently free on Amazon and Barnes & Noble, so grab a copy now! That is how I discovered this series and this author. Once I finished the first book I bought the rest of the series. I love this series!!
Since this is my first review for the series on my blog here is the background for the series:
The McCarthys of Gansett Island series is about a family that owns a marina and hotel on a fictional version of Block Island, Rhode Island. The stories incorporate the five McCarthy siblings and their parents as well as their wide circle of friends and extended family. I love the sense of community this series has. The people of Gansett Island are caring and always there to help one another.
Meant for Love is Jenny’s story and I have been looking forward to this book since the character was first introduced in the series. Jenny lost her fiancé in the 9/11 attacks in New York. It has been 12 years since his death and Jenny moves to the island to work (and live) at the islands lighthouse. She comes to the island to try to start a new life, away from all the sympathetic looks she receives in her hometown. With the help of her new friends she starts dating again but hasn’t met “the guy”. That is until she meets Alex Martinez. Alex recently moves back to the island to help take care of his mother. Alex is also tired of all the sympathetic attention he receives, so when he meets Jenny there is an instant spark. Actually it is smoking hot!!! Author Marie Force does an incredible job in creating the chemistry between Jenny and Alex. Plus they really are meant for each other – they are both dealing with heartache and finally meet someone who truly understands what they are going through (and not just sympathizing).
I loved every moment we spent with Jenny and Alex. But I was disappointed in some of the side stories. It is nice to catch up with other characters but for this book I felt there were too many interruptions (we heard about 5 couples). I felt they were too distracting. I did love hearing about Janey and Joe (since there was a shocking ending for them in book 9 – Time for Love), but I would have loved to hear more of Luke and Sydney. Despite this I still love the series and can’t wait to read more.
Marie Force is one of my favorite authors. Her stories are well written and have characters you can relate to and fall in love with. I love the small community setting which makes it more realistic. Her stories are filled with love, romance, family togetherness and friendships. There is something for everyone to enjoy.

I think I have Maid for Love! Thanks for reminding me about it. This looks like a fun series and one I definitely need to push up the list a bit!
You’re welcome!! It is a long series but it is fun. It’s a nice escape to a small town setting with realistic people (instead of beautiful billionaires). I hope you get a chance to read it.
That series looks really good, I’ll give it a try, thanks for the review !
