Burned by an unreliable source, Savannah Carmichael, returns to her hometown of Danvers, Virginia with her once-promising journalism career in ruins. Given the opportunity to get her skin back in the game by writing a patriotic human interest piece, Savannah turns her attention to the town hermit, Asher Lee, a wounded veteran who returned to Danvers eight years ago, and hasn’t been seen since.
After an IED explosion in Afghanistan took Asher’s hand and disfigured half of his face, he's lived a quiet life on the outskirts of Danvers where the locals respect his privacy…that is, until Savannah Carmichael comes calling in a borrowed sundress and a plate of homemade brownies. When Asher agrees to be interviewed by Savannah, he starts feeling things for the beautiful reporter that he hasn’t felt in years.
Misfits in small-town Danvers, Savannah and Asher create a bond right away, touching each other’s hearts in ways neither thought possible. When a terrible mistake threatens to drive them apart, they’ll have to decide if the love they found in one another’s arms is strong enough to fight for their hard-won happily ever after.
5 Stars for The Vixen & the Vet, but this really deserves 6++ Stars! The Vixen & the Vet was perfect from page one! From the beginning this story drew me in and I hated to put it down.
The Vixen & the Vet is the story about Asher Lee and Savannah Carmichael who are both struggling with heartache. Asher is soldier that was injured in Afghanistan. Savannah Carmichael is a reporter that lost her job and credibility. Both return home to hide from the world but instead find each other. Asher is suffering from physical pain but that is not the focus of this story. His injuries are extensive but it’s his loneliness that really moved me. Asher has only Miss Pots, his appointed guardian from when his parents were killed. Instead of the town supporting and honoring a veteran, they cringe at the sight of him and call him names. This was so upsetting. So for me The Vixen & the Vet isn’t just a love story. It’s opened my eyes and increased my respect for all the men and women of our military.
The Vixen & the Vet was so well written, the story flowed smoothly and at a great pace that kept me intrigued. The romance scenes were steamy and sexy. The interactions with the characters were funny and heartwarming. And I loved the supporting characters, Miss Pots and Judy Carmichael (Savannah’s mother). Both women are loving and gave sound advice to Asher and Savannah. There is a scene with Judy and her blue ribbons that brought me to tears.
With each new book from Katy Regnery I get more impressed with her writing. She surprises me with how creative she is. First it was the text messages in Midsummer Sweetheart (Heart of Montana #2) and now with The Vixen & the Vet it is the references to Beauty and the Beast and the use of the “most important milestones” headings that tied the entire story. These little touches add uniqueness to her stories which keep coming back to her for more.
The Vixen & the Vet is a great story and my new favorite from Katy Regnery. This is a book I would read over and over again! I recommend this to everyone!
