Before the curse, there was a promise. A prequel to the bestselling Tiger’s Curse series, this much anticipated novella recalls the beginning of Ren and Kishan’s story. Before Kelsey there was a girl, raised by a villain, whose love for a hero changed the course of history.
Trapped under the thumb of her abusive and powerful father Lokesh, Yesubai struggles to keep her own magical abilities secret while evading his dark powers. When Lokesh promises Yesubai to the prince of a neighboring kingdom, she becomes the central pawn in his plot to destroy the ruling family and take power for himself. Yesubai is trapped by her father’s threats and desperate to protect the man she comes to love, but she knows that any decision she makes will have dire consequences. As dark forces gather around her, Yesubai must decide if she’s willing to reveal that somewhere deep within her she has the power to change everything.
Tiger’s Promise is a prequel to one of my favorite series, The Tiger Saga. I have to admit when I first heard about this project I wasn’t really happy about it. In my mind I only see Ren and Kelsey, so I wasn’t sure if I wanted to read about Ren and Yesubai. But while I was reading this I was really surprised that I grew to like Yesubai. Throughout The Tiger Saga series we hear Ren and Kishan’s recollection of the “curse”, so naturally fans came to think as Yesubai as Lokesh’s evil daughter that tricked the princes. But with the Tiger’s Promise it is revealed she was as much a victim as the princes were. It was sad to read her story but now we have a better understanding of what really happened. But I did wish this was a little longer and shared more of Kishan and Ren’s point of view.
After reading this I realized how much I miss reading from Colleen Houck. I can’t wait to read her next projects, which titles have yet to be released (the book of Ren and Kishan’s point-of-views and her Egyptian series).
Tiger’s Promise is a must read for all fans of The Tiger Saga.
In case you missed it I featured the Tiger’s Promise on a Book Looks. The glamorous look is for Yesubai and the fun day look is for Kelsey.
