Waiting On Weds TV Pick – Black Sails

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine, where we post upcoming book releases we are highly anticipating.  But to be honest my TBR (To Be Read) list is so long right now I can’t even think of another book to add to my list.  So instead I am going to occasionally share something else that I can’t  wait for.  I love reading but I have other things I enjoy too (that explains the “more” in my blog name!).

This week’s pick:

Black Sails

A Starz channel original series, premiering January 25

1715. The Golden Age of Piracy in the Caribbean is at its apex. The former British colony of New Providence Island is now lawless territory, controlled by the most notorious pirate captains
in history. The most feared among them is CAPTAIN FLINT.

But as the British Navy returns to these waters, threatening to exterminate Flint and his crew, another side of him emerges. Driven by deep, complicated, even romantic motives, Flint allies himself with the formidable ELEANOR GUTHRIE, daughter of the local smuggling kingpin who turns the pirates’ loot into profits. Together, they forge a plan to hunt the ultimate prize, and by winning it, stave off reclamation of their home to ensure their survival.

Arrayed against them are a series of opponents: rival captains, jealous of Flint’s power; Eleanor’s father, whose ambitions for the island conflict with his daughter’s; and a young sailor, JOHN SILVER, recently recruited onto Flint’s crew, who will somehow manage to constantly undermine his captain’s agenda.

Why did I pick this show?

  1. I have been waiting for this show since I first heard about it at Comic Con San Diego, 2013. I’m a huge fan of Starz series Spartacus , which I am still sad that it ended.  So I’ve been looking for another epic series that’s entertaining, so I hope this is it!
  2. This series is produced by Michael Bay (Transformers), so you know this will be a fun ride with explosives!!
  3. The story is written as a prequel to the Robert Louis Stevenson children’s classic Treasure Island.  They may have taken a risky chance by associating the show to a classic, but I like that it is an original show (and Starz didn’t give in to adding another superhero show like the other networks have done).
  4. I love Captain Jack Sparrow, but these are the ‘real’ pirates. Finally we get to see a real pirates life.

So what do you think?  Is this a show you would watch?
